I don’t “Dear Future Husband”

June 24, 2015 · 14 Comments

Happy Hump Day People!

I hope you are having an amazing (and productive) week thus far!

Okay so, I was “concentrating” on my work, minding my business when I received a watsapp message from a good friend of mine. It read “Dear Future husband, I ran 2 miles this morning. You’re welcome.” I replied “lmao! please eh, no too vex, but what does your workout have to do with my future in law?” Her response, “well not everyone likes working out like you. I am doing it to keep my body tight for his bragging rights.” (I only have permission to share to this point of our chat, so I’ll refer to another instance to make my point).

Not too long ago, one of my sister’s showed me a similar instagram post. In the post, a lady wrote a letter to her “future daughter in law” telling her about how she disciplined her 5 year old son to set him on the right track. From what I remember, I think she ended the letter on a similar note – you’re welcome and I will continue to raise him so you won’t have to do too much.

My candid thoughts on the instances above – sweety, shouldn’t you want to keep your body tight FOR YOU, for YOUR OWN bragging rights? Aunty, isn’t that YOUR SON? Isn’t it your duty as his mother to make sure he grows up to be a person of integrity?

There are so many pictures and comments all over social media about things people are doing to themselves or the people in their lives in preparation of their “future affiliates” to which I pose the following question – don’t you think you matter enough to do it for yourself?

As always, thank you so much for reading.

Love always,

The Wawa-NewYorker
