Go For Gold

June 6, 2017 · 8 Comments

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I hope you are off to a great start of the week.

Okay so, one of my friends put up a post on Instagram that read “do you really wanna win or just look good losing?” The first commenter wrote “I want to win but if I have to lose I might as well look good” and most of the comments read along the same lines. After reading them, I replied “Win! No one looks at losers.” My friend sent me a direct message and the rest of the conversation when like this;

DN: Obiageli!!!
Me: Warido?
DN: Why must you be different?
Me: What did I do now?
DN: Lol. Your comment, on my post.
Me: Hahaha, what about it?
DN: Nothing. Lol. You know what I like about you?
Me: What? What? What?
DN: You always make me think outside the box
Me: ? Sorry
DN: No. I love it. What’s wrong with looking good while you lose?
Me: I think if you put the same energy into trying to win, you would win
DN: But we all can’t be winners? Should I kill myself when I don’t win?
Me: Not at all. All I’m trying to state is that you have to go for the win! You have to TRY for a win! The second you start thinking about how second place looks or the implications of losing you lose. Winners don’t have a plan B! You gotta “die on the line!” Hahaha
DN: I can tell you will be one of those Naija moms that ask their kids did the person in the first place have two heads?
Me: LOL! Nope. My kids will be the reason other parents ask those questions ?

He called me and we went back and forth for a while. At the end, we settled on the fact that I am stubborn LOL.

See eh, I get it. In a world where anyone with a phone is a journalist and everything you say/do will be used against you forever, it is hard to try without wondering what people would say. Shoot, I still don’t broadcast that this is my blog in public because of this.

HOWEVER, great things don’t happen to people are hellbent of worrying about how they look losing. Successful people (who are honest) will tell you there were times when chasing their dreams made them look stupid to people around them.

So my darling “begin with end in mind” and WIN!

Win – not because of anyone else but because you owe it to yourself to have the best and nothing but.

Win – not because it is expected of you by the people who love you; but because it isn’t expected of you by the people who left you.

Win – not because only if feels good but to reiterate my stubborn self “No one looks at losers” ??

As always, thank you all for reading.

Love always,
