The Wawa-New Yorker

Who are your True friends?

October 15, 2015 · 9 Comments

  • Okay so, my Paulo Coelho book for October is The Zahir.

Context: Back in March, I decided to embark on The 12 Months of Paulo Coelho – whereby I would read one Paulo Coelho book a month. So far, it’s been a mind blowing experience. The man is a genius! He uses stories to take you through journeys that will have you thinking differently. My Igbo name for him is Akachukwu (hand of God) because I strongly believe God sends His messages through him.

Anyho – so I’m reading The Zahir and I came across something I really wanted to get your thoughts on:

Our true friends are those who are with us when the good things happen. They cheer us on and are pleased by our triumphs. False friends only appear at difficult times, with their sad, supportive faces, when, in fact, our suffering is serving to console them for their miserable lives.

Eh?????

I’ve always heard “a find in need is a friend indeed” – a true friend is one who helps you when you are in need. So when I read this,  I was a tad perplexed.

What do you guys think? I know ideally, it would be great to have ride or dies (I have been blessed with the most amazing friends  who have stuck through the wonderful and not-so-great times in my life. I also have friends that swear they read my blog but do not – story for another day) but seriously, which do you prefer, people who will celebrate with you when times are great or people who will be there for you when things are not-so-great?

As always, thank you for reading.

Love always,

The Wawa New-Yorkers

P.S – To my friends who “form” they read my blog and don’t – God is watching you and so am I!

I don’t know! If the person is not a “true friend” then why would they know you are in need? People act like they want the truth but when you give them your “idea of truth” you can easily become their enemy. A wise person once said to me “go out take people as they show you and leave it there and come home”

Whether in good times or bad times, a ‘TRUE FRIEND’ should be there. I always go by this Gandhi’s quote “Be the change you wish to see in the world. So to me , Be the friend you want to have.

I think so too! I keep getting warned that I can’t keep holding people to my own standards because apparently they are too high *rolls eyes*. But I really don’t think its right to subject myself to people who don’t TRY to put in the amount effort I put into them.

      Okay, rant over, LOL!

Thank you so much for reading friend XOXO!!!

Proverbs 17:17 -“A true friend shows love at all times, And is a brother who is born for times of distress.” I agree with this!
